Feature block

Details

Description:

The Feature block allows you to create a block with special styling to emphasize text and images on your site. The Feature section gives you three pre-set stylings for the title area and allows multiple repeating content block areas within the block.

Installation:

  1. From your Global drop-down menu (upper left part of the screen where your site name is listed) click and select "Content Library".
  2. Click to expand the "General Library" folder.
  3. Click to expand the "Feature block" folder.
  4. Click on the Feature block.
  5. In the view pane on the right, click the Copy tab.
  6. Click on the Parent folder link that, by default, reads "General Library/Feature Block". A dialogue box will pop up. The drop-down menu at the top reads "Content Library". Click on this and select the site you want to copy the Feature block in to and then, in the asset tree for your site, navigate to /Base Folder/_user-blocks/. Click Confirm. The dialogue box will close.
  7. Click Submit.
  8. Navigate to where you saved the block on your site. Click on it. Click the Edit tab in the view pane and set up the block as you wish using the instructions below. Click Submit to save.
  9. Navigate to the page where the Feature block will be added. Click on the page and, in the view pane, click the Edit tab. Attach the block in the desired repeating content block and click Submit to save.

Customization:

By default the Feature block is styled through the CMS' central files. You do have the option of adding your own CSS in a supplemental stylesheet.

How to create a Feature block

Creating settings and headlines in a feature block
  1. Internal link for feature: If the feature block is to lead to a full page story, you can link it here to an internal page, or;
  2. Or, external URL for feature: Provide an external page URL to a page outside of your site.
  3. Label for 'more' link: Enter custom text for your 'more' link.
  4. Show 'more about' link?: Click the 'yes' checkbox to activate the 'more' link.
  5. Headline text: Enter your headline text.
  6. Position of headline: State whether the headline should appear above or below the image if one is attached.
  7. Strong styling?: Alternate styling 1. Darker background color. Headline text is underlined to indicate a link if present.
  8. Button styling?: Alternate styling 2. Lighter background color. Entire headline text box is a link and will give a different hover color if a link is present.

Creating images in the feature block

  1. Image file (optional): If you wish to include an image in the feature block, link to it here.
  2. Image alt text: Provide the image's alt text.
  3. Image caption text: The WYSIWYG pane allows you to enter a caption.
  4. Use the feature URL (in Feature settings)?: If you want the image to have a link wrapped around it, click the 'yes' checkbox to activate.
  5. Or, internal link on image: Once the checkbox is checked, either link to an internal page in your site, or;
  6. Or, external link on image: Insert a URL to an external page outside your site.

Creating repeating content block areas in a feature block

Each Feature block contains a repeating content block identical to the type found in the page templates. Like those, the feature block allows you to add multiple repeating content blocks. If you're unfamiliar with how to use the repeating content block, information is available in the training section of this site.
